ABOUT US

Since 1912, YWCA Metropolitan Phoenix has been on a mission to eliminate racism, empower women, and promote peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all.  YWCA’s mission lives in the heart of employees, volunteers and partners and demands a world of equity and human decency.

Across the valley, we turn on our lights and open our doors to answer the cry for justice. We support senior independence and the dignity of aging in place. We support women and their families on their journey to financial independence. We demand a world of equity and human decency.

Our power comes from the women and girls we serve. We are thought leaders. We are fearless movers. We are innovative shakers, embracing collaboration and co-creation in the name of Justice.

YWCA’s mission is to eliminate racism, empower women, and promote peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all. We will get up and do the work until injustice is rooted out, until institutions are transformed, until the world sees women, girls, and people of color the way we do:

  • Equal.
  • Powerful.
  • Unstoppable.

Eliminating Racism

YWCA Metropolitan Phoenix is a voice in social justice, hosting conversations, film screenings, and community events where people can come together to share and learn how race and racism affect each of us. Each April, we join more than 200 sister associations across the nation in Until Justice Just Is. This 21-day challenge unveils the impacts of the history of racism and unites our voices to advocate, educate, and promote racial justice.

Empowering Women

YWCA sponsors events that support women and empower or celebrate women. Each year, we host our Tribute to Leadership that does just that.

We partner with organizations across Phoenix that support women who are going through vulnerable situations to provide financial empowerment courses. Our goal is to improve financial independence and economic advancement for women.

CREATING COMMUNITY FOR AGING ADULTS

We believe that when communities come together, individuals and families get stronger. From creating community spaces where adults can share meals, to delivering meals and offering the support they need to age in place, YWCA is committed to combatting the loneliness and isolation epidemic impacting our older adults.

Instigating change

Systems change means making adjustments in laws policies, practices, power dynamics, social norms or mindsets that underlie issues in society. It often involves collaboration with diverse partners and can take place on a local, national or global level.

The Systems Change Initiative is hosting listening sessions with community members across the Northwest Valley to understand access and barriers to mental resources for LGBTQ+ young people and seniors. The team will make policy recommendations to Maricopa County by amplifying voices of community members.
